Leleshwa Camp

The Leleshwa Camp

The Leleshwa Camp is situated on the north-eastern edge of the Maasai Mara.Leleshwa Camp is situated on the Siana Community Conservation Area on the north-eastern edge of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya. Nestled in a stream valley amongst picturesque hills and rolling plains, Leleshwa Camp is a small, intimate camp, accommodating up to 14 guests in 7 en-suite safari tents. The camp is situated just outside of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve which gives guests the opportunity to enjoy a range of other safari activities in addition to those permitted in the reserve itself.

Leleshwa Camp is an eco-friendly camp committed to community conservation and development.

Accommodation

Luxurious Camp interieour providing a comfortable stay at the Leleshwa Camp Leleshwa Camp consists of 7 well-appointed tents of 20 x 14 feet with en-suite bathrooms and a large verandah. Each tent has either 2 single or 1 king sized bed with duvet bedding and an extra canvas cot bed can be provided for children. The tents are insect-proof and pleasantly furnished with thoughtful touches for your comfort.

Bathrooms are fitted with flushing toilets and a traditional safari shower. Although water is not piped to the tents, hot water is available at all times. Solar power provides lighting inside the tents. At night, hurricane lamps bathe the camp in a soft, warm light and Maasai warriors are on patrol to escort you.

Meals and drinks are served in a large dining and comfortable lounge area by our friendly staff. The chef prepares a variety of delicious meals and can cater to your dietary requirements.

Every night a roaring campfire is lit and you can relax under the expansive African night sky and let the sounds of the bush wash over you.

Safari Activities

Leleshwa Camp is situated on Siana Community Conservation Area, just outside of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.

In the area, guests are not bound by game reserve rules and, in addition to their day game drives, can enjoy sundowners followed by night game drives, guided bush walks and Maasai community activities, including visiting a traditional village and local school.

On guided bush walks, your professional safari guide and Maasai tracker will tell you about medicinal properties of plants, point out insect and bird species and teach you how to read different tracks and signs left by animals - things that you might miss from a moving vehicle.

As the reserve is not fenced, many animals move around freely and there is plentiful game around camp, including a resident lion pride which can be heard calling most nights, leopard, cheetah, hyena and a variety of plains game. Night drives offer an exciting way of viewing predators at their most active and nocturnal animals, including aardvark, porcupine and spring hares.

There is quick and easy access into the Maasai Mara Game Reserve for longer day game drives. We often carry sumptuous picnics to enjoy on the banks of the Mara River, overlooking pods of hippopotamus and crocodile basking on the banks.

Community Conservation

The Leleshwa Camp is working closely together with the local community. At Leleshwa Camp, we have very close ties with our local community. Our presence on Siana Community Conservation Area, paying conservation fees and providing employment, gives value to wildlife which would otherwise be regarded as problematic and dangerous.

Community Conservation initiatives that we support include a local primary school, access to drinking water and overall planning and management of the conservation area. Guests are welcome to become long-term contributors towards selected projects.

Leleshwa Camp is eco-friendly and we have taken care to cause little disruption to our natural surroundings. During the rainy season the camp closes to allow natural rejuvenation to occur.
